Scholarship Program
Oregon Society for Respiratory Care Scholarship Program
The Oregon Society for Respiratory Care (OSRC) Scholarship Program provides financial assistance for students enrolled in accredited Respiratory Care Programs in Oregon.
The OSRC will award a minimum of four $500.00 scholarships to:
- Students enrolled in an Associate Degree program
- Students enrolled in a Bachelor Degree program
In addition, we are pleased to announce the Inaugural Tim Hutchinson Scholarship. Tim was a long serving board member and friend of the OSRC.
A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to:
- The student that shows exemplary work in the areas of community service and leadership.
Specific Requirements
Applicants Must:
- Be a high school graduate or equivalent; and
- Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in the Respiratory Care Program.
- Documentation must be received verifying admission into the program.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Demonstrate characteristics of good citizenship, reliability, desire and positive attitude.
- Be a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC), or in the process of joining.
Application Process
Each applicant’s submission must include:
- Completed Scholarship Application Form
- One-Page ONLY Personal Essay** – The essay should address the following points:
- Your interest in the Respiratory Care Program.
- Your personal and professional goals.
- Why you feel qualified for this scholarship.
- Two Letters of Recommendation – These letters should be from individuals who can speak to your qualifications, character, and potential in the field of respiratory care.
- Unofficial Transcripts
**For personal essays exceeding one page, only the first page will be reviewed and considered in the evaluation process.**
Submission
Attach the following to the completed 2-page application: one-page essay, two letters of recommendation, and unofficial transcript(s).
Please submit the completed application and supporting documents either by mail or electronically by March 22nd.

All application materials must be received by the submission deadlines to be considered.
Application Acceptance
When received, the OSRC Education Chairperson will review each application to ensure it meets the minimum requirement.
Incomplete applications or failure to follow directions will result in disqualification from consideration.
All qualifying applications will then be forwarded to the Scholarship Selection Committee for final review and selection
Scholarship Selection Process
- The OSRC Scholarship Selection Committee is composed of 5 OSRC Board Members who are not directly affiliated with any respiratory care education program.
- They are responsible for reviewing and evaluating application packets submitted for scholarship consideration.
- The applications will be reviewed in March of each year
- The committee will select two scholarship recipients and one alternate each year (for students of an Associate’s Degree program and those of a four-year Bachelor’s Degree program).
- Each committee member will complete the OSRC Application Score Sheet in assessing the applications and finalizing decisions
- The President will notify all recipients and non-recipients by mail regarding the outcome of their applications.
Scholarship Awards:
All Scholarship recipients will be formally announced during the OSRC Annual Conference.
The Treasurer will distribute scholarship payments to each recipient at the OSRC Annual Conference (if present) or by mail.
